In many states, such as Arizona and California, the law now states that any time the main pump goes out on a pool it needs to be replaced with a variable speed pump.  Some may wonder why?  But you don’t need to.  The truth is, you will earn back any money spent on the pump in 1-2 years just by the savings on your electric bill!  This is a great benefit.

Variable Speed Pool Pumps:

Pros: The benefits of installing a new variable speed pool pump are that you get a highly efficient pool pump, your power bill will go down because these pumps are energy-efficient and don't require the large amount of usage like single speed pumps do.  Another benefit is they come with great manufacturer warranties; companies like Pentair will provide warranties up to three years!  For best long-term solutions, variable speed pumps are the way to go. They're built to last and are the best option available to us.

Cons:  The only downside to choosing a variable speed pool pump is the initial price is higher than other options. But they have proven to save enough money that you actually earn back money from how much it saves versus running a single speed pump.

What pool pump/motor should I get for my pool?

Single Speed Pool Pumps:

Pros:

Cons:  Not energy-efficient, not as long lasting as variable speed pumps.
